Dr. James J. Nordlund, MD

James J. Nordlund, MD was raised in Minnesota where he went to school and achieved his MD degree. His post graduate training was at Duke University, the National Institutes of Health and Yale University. After completing his training in internal medicine and in dermatology in 1972, he joined the faculty at Yale to study with Dr. Aaron Lerner the problem of vitiligo. They investigated together various aspects of vitiligo and skin color until Dr. Nordlund went to the University of Cincinnati in Ohio where he was chairman of the department from 1983 to 1988.

He established a laboratory with investigators Dr. Raymond Boissy, Dr. Zalfa Abdel Malek and others to study skin color and vitiligo. After retiring as chairman, he spent a year with his wife in Moshi, Tanzania. He currently works full time at Group Health Associates in Cincinnati. He conducts an active treatment center for individuals with all types of skin color problems. He has been an author on hundreds of scientific and review articles and is the senior editor on the book The Pigmentary System: Physiology and Pathophysiology.
