NAME OF THE STUDY:
Effects of narrowband ultraviolet B phototherapy on melanocyte proliferation in patients with vitiligo.
BACKGROUND:
• Our laboratory is studying a disease of the skin known as vitiligo.
• Vitiligo is a common skin disease characterized by multiple light colored areas on different parts of the body.
• This skin disease is thought to be due to an overly active immune system.
• We are studying the effects of ultraviolet light on patients with vitiligo
ELIGIBILITY:
• You are at least 18 years old
• You have 5% or more of your skin affected with vitiligo.
• You are in reasonably good health and your other illnesses are under control.
THE STUDY
• You will receive ultraviolet light three times a week at our outpatient facility
• The study will last for six months.
• You will have six small skin biopsies taken during the study.
• There is no cost to you for being in the research study.
• You may leave the study at any time.
• The study is approved by the Institutional Review Board (our ethics committee).
